A New York appellate court has told the Manhattan DA's office that a contested Egon Schiele drawing is a civil matter, not a crime scene. The ruling that the seizure of 'Russian War Prisoner' (1916) from the Art Institute of Chicago was improper reduces the single largest legal overhang on works with unresolved Nazi-era provenance — collectors who have been discounting those names for a decade should reprice the risk, not eliminate it. Elsewhere the institutions were busy: Liu Wei's sculptures went up on the Met's Fifth Avenue facade, the Met set a 2028 exhibition around its new Chang Dai-chien holdings, and Buenos Aires's Malba landed 1,200 works from the Daros Latinamerica Collection plus a $50 million endowment and a Frida Escobedo building.
